CHARACTER SURVEY & DETAILS
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Mondo is around 6'1" and a half; he's larger than most teenagers his age and looks more like an adult due to his build.
2. How old is he?
Mondo believes he's 17, but due to canon events, he's missing two years of memories, so he's really around 19.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
He's a teenage boy, so of course he slouches. He will draw himself up to appear intimidating, but for the most part he's slouching all the hell over the place. Mondo doesn't see any reason to bother with good posture.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
No physical disabilities, no illnesses or conditions, and he's very fit. Mondo is very healthy and spends pretty much all of his free time exercising
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Mondo is very relaxed for the most part. When he's not trying to impress people or intimidate them, he's laid-back and casual with his movements. When he is attempting to intimidate people, he's very tense and his movements tend to be a bit jerky and abrupt.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He thinks he's pretty attractive, say an eight out of ten! His attractiveness is pretty subjective due to his stupid hair, but if you're into muscular
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
He's pretty tan from spending a lot of time outdoors riding around with his motorcycle gang. Despite getting into a lot of fights, Mondo doesn't have any noticeable scars.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Mondo's hair is stupid, end of story. It's naturally black, but he's bleached the top layers to all hell and dyed them orange. Those top layers are then styled into a
9. What color are his eyes?
Mondo's eyes are a very light lavender, though they often appear gray.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
He always wears eyeliner, with a strike down both cheeks. It looks awesome, alright. :|
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Shoulders and hands; Mondo gets very stiff when he's angry, but he still talks with his hands.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Most of his wardrobe is darker colors (that way he can sneak around at night without being spotted... just ignore his stupid hair), but he has t-shirts in a variety of colors. He usually wears a long, black coat with golden designs sewn on it. That coat marks him as the leader of the Crazy Diamonds and is very important to him. He does have other coats like it, but those don't have the designs sewn in yet. Mondo usually wears similar outfits, though he'll occasionally ditch the coat entirely.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
All of Mondo's clothes look to be too big for him; his shirt and pants are both extremely baggy and his coat seems to be the only thing even close to his size. It's an extremely long coat, so even that might be too large for him. He's very comfortable in his clothes, however.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Well, he's technically a student, so no, he doesn't. He violates the dress code, but he usually leaves the coat at home when he's in class. When he's with the gang he obviously wears the coat.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Mondo's voice is very deep, but it has quite the range. He can go into higher pitches when he's excited, or lower pitches when he's angry.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He definitely talks easily and doesn't seem to have much of an issue speaking to anyone. Mondo tends to be very loud, with no indoor voice whatsoever, and that doesn't even include the yelling, which he does a lot. His speech speeds up when he's excited.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Mondo doesn't use honorifics. Period. If he's using one, it's a sign that he genuinely respects the person. Mondo also uses "aniki" to refer to Ishimaru, his "brother". Mondo is also very crass; most of his sentences include some version of the word "fuck".
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Japanese is the only language he knows how to speak. Obviously he's fluent.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He needs to think about his words, actually. Mondo can speak without thinking - and he often does - but he tends to make his points better when he thinks before he opens his mouth.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Mondo is somewhere in between. He's certainly not eloquent - his speech is too rough and rude for that - but he's not inarticulate either. He's very crass and short in his speech.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Definitely street-smart. Mondo isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's got enough smarts to get him by as the leader of the Crazy Diamonds. He actually does have quite a bit of schooling under his belt - and being admitted to Hope's Peak as the Super High-School Level Gang Leader certainly helps!
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He thinks on his feet. While he prefers to have time to think about what to say, his actions tend to come without much thought. For example, attacking Monobear and then throwing him when Kirigiri told him to. Or that entire debacle with Chihiro. Yeaaah.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Intuitive and practical, though he does hold some idealistic views. Mondo focuses on the immediate issue and how to address it rather than looking at the big picture. This can often get him in trouble in the long run.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He's currently enrolled at Hope's Peak, one of the top schools where he should have a good chance at getting into any university he wants. His schooling before that was just normal public schooling.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
As his title would suggest, he's a gang leader. He focuses mostly on riding and fixing bikes, but he also tends to get into battles for territory. He knows a lot about how gangs work and everything that goes along with that. Mondo does have a bit of mechanical know-how as well. That's something that interests him, and he might pursue a career in that if he can't get good enough grades in Hope's Peak. Or at least, that was his plan before everything went to shit.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert for the most part. He does like to spend time alone, however.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Mondo is the least even-tempered person on the planet. He gets riled very easily and that tends to translate into anger. He is very driven and focuses on what would be best for the gang rather than himself. Mondo is pretty laid-back when he's not enraged at something, and he's very easy to get along with.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He tends to be relaxed (unless they're some sort of authority figure) and interested in whatever they're saying. He's actually quite good with people despite his temper; that would be how he built the gang back up after Daiya's death.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act. He tends to take the initiative and attack first.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight. He doesn't like running unless there's absolutely nothing he can do.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
He definitely appreciates jokes, as long as they're not directed at him. His sense of humor is pretty normal; he's not a big fan of pranks, however.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
No, he doesn't. He does have blackouts when he gets incredibly angry, where he acts without thinking and doesn't remember acting. Note that this never happened before he entered Hope's Peak.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Several things have impacted Mondo: when he and Daiya left their parents; when he and Daiya formed the Crazy Diamonds; the first time Mondo rode a motorcycle; entering Hope's Peak. The majority of these helped him decide what he wanted to do with his life and who he wanted to be as a person. Entering Hope's Peak was due to his brother's wishes; Daiya couldn't attend school all the way through, but he insisted that Mondo make time for school, even though he's running the gang. Getting into Hope's Peak was a God-send.
14. What does he fear?
Depending on the canon point, Mondo fears his inability to control his rage, and the blackouts that follow. If he's from before Chihiro's death, he fears nothing. At least, that's what he says. In reality, Mondo fears letting his brother down. He's also afraid that the gang will find out the truth about Daiya's death.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He hopes to graduate from Hope's Peak and become a carpenter. It might sound very simple, but he does wish to make up for what he did while he was in the gang; building things instead of breaking them, for instance.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
That he killed his brother. To be fair, he didn't, but Mondo blames himself for Daiya's death. He wouldn't want anyone to find out about this, especially not the gang members. He promised Daiya that he would keep the gang together and Mondo intends to keep that promise through whatever means necessary.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Mondo's relationship with his parents was a very rocky one at best. Mondo never really got along with his parents. His father was often drunk and when he came home from a night out drinking, he often hurt Mondo's mother or Daiya. Mondo was thankfully spared, but he watched Daiya get hurt far too many times. His relationship with his mother wasn't much better. She was verbally abusive, often taking her anger out on both Mondo and Daiya. Daiya finally got sick of the abuse and took Mondo away. They hid out with the gang and managed to avoid their parents for the most part. Mondo still fears that his parents are going to show up and force him to come back.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Daiya is Mondo's only brother and he is Mondo's inspiration and his (former) best friend. Daiya was unfortunately killed in a motorcycle accident, when he swerved to push Mondo out of the way of an oncoming vehicle. Mondo was spared, but Daiya wasn't. Daiya's dying words were to ask Mondo to keep the Crazy Diamonds going. Mondo promised he would. That promise is very important to him.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Mondo doesn't know any of his other blood relatives. His parents weren't very close to their families.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Yes, Mondo calls Ishimaru "aniki," which is the same term he used for Daiya. It means "brother." He's very fond of Ishimaru and considers him his best friend.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
As stated above, Mondo's best friend is Ishimaru, his "brother." They met in Hope's Peak and originally didn't like each other, but after a fierce "battle" in the sauna, they became the best of friends. Neither of them won the sauna battle, but they did discover they were both very passionate people who clicked pretty easily once they got past their differences.
6. Does he have other close friends?
The Crazy Diamonds, of course. The majority of them are around his age, but there are a few older ones who are still in high school.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
While Mondo doesn't have any difficulty getting along with people, he doesn't make friends very easily. This is usually because of how stand-offish he can be, and if it's not that, then it's the yelling that most people don't like.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family, of course. It helps that he considers the Crazy Diamonds his family though, since he doesn't really have any family of his own anymore. Mondo essentially disowned his parents.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He's single, and judging from the way his past romantic endeavors have gone, he's going to be forever alone.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
His first crush was unremarkable, it was a girl in his class. Unfortunately, he failed horribly to get her attention and that went unrequited. Mondo's latest was also unremarkable. He gets crushes very easily, but he scares them off just as easily. When he gets nervous, he yells. Obviously they don't want to deal with that.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
He likes smart girls and more often than not he likes quiet, shy girls.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
No, he doesn't. Mondo isn't sure if he wants children or not. That's something to think about in the future, not right now.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
While it's probably not a "rivalry," Mondo really doesn't like Togami. Togami probably doesn't care, however.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Mondo is heterosexual, but he's open to experimentation. He's not really sure where he falls, but he's most likely a 2.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Sex is something he'd like to try, for obvious reasons. He gets teased horribly about being a virgin and obviously he'd like to change that. However, he doesn't want to have sex just to have it - sex is an expression of love and that's something he would like to have.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Good question! I'll come back to this later.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Mondo's birthday is June 9th, which makes him a Gemini. He fits the type perfectly; he really does enjoy being the center of attention and being talked about.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Mondo doesn't identify as anything; religion isn't important to him. He has better things to focus on, and besides, most religions wouldn't approve of his actions. He's not an atheist, however, as he does believe in God.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
He does, yes. Mondo refuses to kill, though he will hurt people obviously. Refusing to kill sometimes gets in the way, but it is Mondo's personal code and he will stick by it. Otherwise, pretty much nothing is off-limits.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's completely indifferent, unless the beliefs start getting in his way, in which case he gets annoyed very easily. If he can be calm about it, then he's curious, but this only happens rarely.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He hates cops and authority figures and finds them all to be pretty useless at their jobs. After all, his gang has been running around for years without getting caught. (...Ignore that one time he was thrown in jail.)
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Mondo is pretty poor, but he manages to make ends meet for both himself and his gang. He isn't the sole provider, of course, but he does his best to make sure everyone is comfortable.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Mondo is the head of the biggest gang in Japan. Because of this, he was accepted into Hope's Peak as the Super High-School Level Gang Leader. Obviously it's changed from when he was the second in command, under Daiya. Mondo challenged Daiya to a race to prove that he was a better racer. That backfired spectacularly.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Mondo usually lives at the gang headquarters, which he does share with the other gang members.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
He doesn't have much in the way of extra cash, so he doesn't really buy much else. All his spare cash is spent on modifying his motorcycle.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Mondo is a gang leader, which means he pulls raids on people and places. The Crazy Diamonds specialize in stealing, but they get into all sorts of gang fights for territory. He's very good at what he does and he definitely enjoys it, even though sometimes he wishes things weren't as immoral as they are.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Modifying his motorcycle, racing, and fighting are the main ones, but he also is interested in architecture and carpentry.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He eats whatever he can afford, so he doesn't eat out very often. Mondo can cook fairly well and often ends up cooking for the gang members. He does drink as well, but he's always careful not to drink too much.
