...hang on, he did the thing again, didn't he. He's trying to get better about not doing the thing where he skips steps halfway inbetween when he's explaining something, but he's been doing the thing for years and hanging out with Alice lately besides, and she also does the thing, so...
Come on, Ishimaru, try not to do the thing.]
No, I understand what you mean.
I think what's happening now, though, is that we're happy that Fujisaki-kun and Asahina-kun are back. And we should be! It was hard when they left, especially Fujisaki-kun. And even if seeing them again doesn't make everything okay, we still feel like that because it feels like everything might be okay one day, even if it's not now.
[...Ishimaru, how the hell was anyone with a halfway linear line of thinking supposed to get that out of what you said previously.]
oh okay i get it! yeah that's right it's great that they're back and i don't mean to sound like i'm not happy for that or anything! thanks for explaining that though
[Yeah, Ishimaru... sometimes extra steps are needed...]
Well, you've explained a lot of things such that they make more sense to me now, for one thing!
For another, you're a decent gauge for whether I should say something or not - if saying it to you would probably make you angry, it's likely something that shouldn't be said; if it's something that would make me angry if someone else said it to you, it definitely shouldn't be.
...You also make this one certain expression a lot, and if I say something that gets that expression that's a sign that I should probably start apologizing.
oh that's actually a pretty good way to think of it though a lot of stupid shit makes me angry sometimes so it's probably not the most reliable method but it's definitely a good start!
yeah? like if you're trying to intimidate someone? or keep yourself from laughing at a really bad time? or like when you have to lie about something to spare someone's feelings?
Well, I can see where sparing one's feelings is a good thing, and I've started trying to do that! ["Started."] But I don't think lying to anyone is going to help anything.

yeah that's right

thanks for explaining that though
[Yeah, Ishimaru... sometimes extra steps are needed...]
no subject
...Was it that far off?
no subject
okay yeah it was kind of bad
it's harder to pick up on shit through text you know it's not that big of a deal!!
no subject
You know, surprisingly, this is not going to result in a shrieking fit today.]
No, it's okay - I've been trying to work on that.
no subject
i can't read tone in text for shit
like you could be writing everything sarcastically and i wouldn't have any idea
but i do think it's good that you're working on it!
you do sometimes lose me in conversation
but i'm sure you're getting better with it!
no subject
But you've been helping me a lot with working on that sort of thing, actually, in several ways.
no subject
it would be pretty weird if you suddenly got sarcastic on me
oh? how?

what expression are you talking about?
[The one he's wearing right now?]
no subject
Trust me, you do it a lot.
no subject
i don't think i'm consciously doing it
i mean i'm pretty sure i'd know if i was doing it on purpose
no subject
[...Ishimaru, this actually explains a lot about you, doesn't it.]
no subject
yeah?

or keep yourself from laughing at a really bad time?

[...]
you never do any of that do you
no subject
Am I supposed to?
no subject
well uh
"supposed to" might not be the right term for it
but most people do?
especially if it's something to spare someone's feelings or something
no subject
Well, I can see where sparing one's feelings is a good thing, and I've started trying to do that! ["Started."] But I don't think lying to anyone is going to help anything.
no subject
well no maybe not
but what about omissions?
no subject
no subject
so it's not flat-out lying
no subject
[........]
I have gotten better at not agreeing with people when they say something and agreeing would probably be insulting, though.
no subject
i was kind of worried about that
so i'm glad to hear you're getting better with it!
no subject
Why were you worried about it?
no subject
like really badly
no subject
We fixed it, though.
